PokerStars Million Dollar Spin N Go PromoApril 28, 2015 was a typical Tuesday for most of us. Professional poker player Jaime Staples was streaming a tournament on PokerStars that day via his Twitch account (PokerStaples), which was typical for him as well. But before long, something extraordinary happened. The online poker room’s famous Spin N Go lottery tournaments struck a $1,000,000 jackpot prize.

The PokerStars Makes Millionaires promotion started up again recently, and three very lucky players who had entered one of the $5 Spin N Go hyper-turbo tournaments found themselves playing for the awesome 1st place prize of $1 million.

Staples Streams $1mm Spin N Go on Twitch

Staples got wind of the million dollar Spin N Go that was taking place and clicked his way over the to the table rail the action, bringing his Twitch fans along with him. As such, thousands of online poker enthusiasts looked on as “Bladsonpoker” of Poland, “hooomlesnurr” of Norway and  “ROliver CEO” of China took center stage to battle it out for the ultimate, 9-figure prize.

As is generally the case with hyper-turbo Spin N Go SNG’s, the action didn’t last long. It only took 7 minutes – a total of 29 hands – for a winner to emerge. That esteemed honor went to the Polish player, “Bladsonpoker”, who cashed in for an amazing $1 million prize after spending just $5 to play in the tournament.

As always, the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, “hooomlesnurr” and “ROliver CEO”, each received an inspiring payout of $100,000 each for their efforts, bringing the total prize pool to $1.2 million.

As the battle was unfolding, Jaime Staples commented to the thousands of viewers looking on. “This is so sick, man. Think about this: for a million dollars right now,” the poker pro exclaimed in awe.

Near the end of the tournament, with “Bladsonpoker” and “hooomlesnurr” fighting it out in heads-up, Staples criticized a decision by the eventual winner. With a single big blind remaining, “hooomlesnurr” went all-in, only to see his Polish opponent fold the pot to him. Ostensibly, Staples would have made the call, but without seeing the cards, it’s hard to say “Bladsonpoker” erred in his decision.

Taking the cautious route, the Pole was able to clinch the supreme Spin N Go victory just a few moments later. Looking down at A-2, “Bladsonpoker” called another all-in shove by the Norwegian, who held 10-7. The board played out, offering no help to either player and delivering the awesome $1,000,000 payout to “Bladsonpoker”.

Spin N Go Winner keeps Composure in Low-Cost Tourney

One can only imagine how ecstatic the Polish poker player was to have found himself sitting on a 9-figure cash, but somehow he managed to continue competing in another tournament he was already involved in before the $1 million prize notification popped up in the Spin N Go window. That other NLHE tournament had a nominal buy-in of just $4.40, yet “Bladsonpoker” remained active in it for the next 90 minutes.

The Polish online poker player has become the fifth person to ever win one million dollars in the PokerStars Makes Millionaires promotion, and only the second to win since the promo was reinstated on March 27. Online poker players still have a chance to win a million as the promotion will continue through May 24, 2015. However, the actual odds of a $5 Spin N Go hitting the $1.2mm jackpot prize pool are about 0.00003%, or 3,333,333 to 1.

The Equity Poker Network got off to an impressive start when it first launched in Q4 2013, garnering the interest of several well-known iGaming operators like 5dimes, SportBet and PokerHost. However, traffic has dropped noticeably in the last few months. Now, one of its premier online poker sites, Full Flush Poker, is helping to keep numbers up by reintroducing a highly acclaimed promotion known as the No Fee SNG.

Full Flush Poker brings back No Fee SNG promotion until end of JanuaryThe online poker operator first introduced the No Fee SNG promo during part of November 2014. It was such a hit that it was restored during part of December, and has now been reintroduced for the remainder of January 2015.

As the promotion’s name implies, players are able to enter any Sit-n-Go tournament on the menu without paying a fee in addition to the standard buy-in charge. The No Fee SNG promotion lasts from now until the end of the month; Saturday, January 31, 2015.

“We’re waiving all FEES on our Sit ‘n’ Go’s for the rest of January,” reads the Full Flush Poker webpage. “Sit down at any S ‘n’ G table and enjoy the added bonus of fee-free tournament play without waiting for a scheduled tournament to shuffle up and deal.”

Sit’n’Go tournaments are generally renowned for their expedience, as opposed to multi-table tournaments (MTTs) that run on a specific schedule. Instead of registering ahead of time and waiting hours or even days for an MTT to begin, SNG tournaments kick off the moment the required number of players have registered for the event. Thus single-table SNGs that offer only up to 9 seats tend to harvest the most interest from online poker players.

Full Flush Poker will be giving up a substantial portion of its monthly profits by reinstating the popular No Fee SNG promo, but in the long run, it could still work to the operator’s – and the EPN network’s – advantage. Because there is no “house” to compete against, like a casino, online poker sites only make money by collecting rake on cash tables and fees for tournaments.

However, while Full Flush Poker won’t be generating any profit from its SNGs over the next 17 days, with the anticipation of higher traffic, there will surely be enough side action on the cash tables and MTT schedule to keep the revenue flowing.

The Equity Poker Network has lost four of its online poker operators in the last 6 months alone, and it’s had a notable effect on the traffic rating. When Gear Poker left in August 2014, followed out the door in October by Bettor Poker, the impact was nominal. In fact, EPN traffic was on the rise then, jumping from about 170 to 230 average cash game players. However, the ensuing loss of 5dimes in November and, more importantly, the PokerHost departure from EPN in December, took a much heavier toll on the online poker network, leaving them with a current 7-day average of about 190 players according to PokerScout.

The saving grace for EPN is that US players from all states (except Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey, which have their own state-regulated online poker sites) are accepted. Until the remaining 47 states choose to go ahead with online poker regulation, countless Americans will continue to seek out US-facing operators. And with a promotion on the table like No Fee SNGs, Full Flush Poker is sure to garner a notable percentage of that traffic.

Real Gaming went live in Nevada in February of 2014, giving the state’s other two online poker sites, Ultimate Poker and WSOP.com, a new rival to contend with. Month after month, Real Gaming attracted only a few players to tables due to its requirement by the Nevada Gaming Control Board to remain in beta testing mode. That changed last month with the regulator’s approval for a full-scale launch of Real Gaming, and the marketing team has been throwing out one promotion after another to drive traffic into the online poker site.

One of the latest additions to the Real Gaming promotional line-up is a Sit & Go Awards campaign. Best of all, it’s not a leaderboard style competition where only a select few win a prize. Every member of the online poker room can reap the rewards, in cold hard cash, just for winning 10, 9-player SNGs in a calendar month. The size of the prize will be based on the buy-in level of the tournaments.

For example, winning 10 of the cheapest SNG’s on the menu, with a buy-in of $1.07, will award $5 in cash at the end of the month. The highest prize of $150 is awarded to all players who win 10 SNG’s with the largest buy-in of $32.10. The following chart depicts all SNG levels and their respective awards.

Sit & Go Awards Promo
SNG Buy-In Cash Prize
$1.00 + $0.07 $5
$3.00 + $0.21 $15
$5.00 + $0.35 $25
$10.00 + $0.70 $50
$20.00 + $1.40 $100
$30.00 + $2.10 $150

The rules of the online poker promotion state that all qualifying SNG’s must have a full, single table of 9 players, and must occur between the hours of 2:00pm and 10:00pm daily.

Real Gaming also introduced a High Score of the Hour promotion in which ring game players can earn cash prizes for generating the highest Loyalty Score during specified hours throughout the day. Every single active table can award its own prize, based on the stakes level being played. As such, if there are 30 active cash games, then 30 players could be eligible to win a prize.

To become eligible for a prize, players must earn a minimum Loyalty Score during the qualifying hour of play. Minimum scores are decided by the stakes of the online poker table, with cash prizes scaling from $2 at micro-limit stakes of $0.01/$0.02, up to $30 at $2/$4 stakes. The following chart shows the stakes, minimum Loyalty Score and respective prizes.

High Score of the Hours Promo
Cash Game Stakes Min Loyalty Score Cash Prize
0.01/0.02 2 $2.00
0.05/0.10 2 $3.00
0.10/0.20 3 $5.00
0.20/0.40 5 $8.00
0.50/1.00 10 $15.00
1.00/2.00 20 $25.00
2.00/4.00 20 $30.00

The High Score of the Hour promotion takes place four times daily, at 2:00p, 5:00pm, 8:00pm and 11:00pm. Only Loyalty Score (LS) earnings for hands that are dealt and completed during the promotional period will count towards the accumulation of LS (i.e. 2:00:00pm to 2:59:59pm).

In addition, to help spread the word and generate even more online poker traffic, Real Gaming is offering Power Up rewards for players who boast their High Score of the Hour win over social media outlets. If a player wins a High Score of the Hour prize, then visits the Power Up link at the online poker room, they can use the links provided to Tweet their winnings, or ‘Like’ and Comment their win on Real Gaming’s Facebook page. Doing so awards an additional $1 Power Up prize, and there is no limit to the amount of times a player can receive Power Ups.
